Interactivity

Burning Man art nearly always offers an interactive element or possibility; involvement with the sculpture itself, or others, or our environment.

The convex mirrors of Constellation of One are irresistable to participants! As they investigate the distortions and unique perspective held by each mirror, the viewer discovers they are part, not only in front of, the art experience.
OUTER:  The viewer is gathered and multiplied into the nucleus of every large and small convex mirror, which spreads like a network of cells. We note our presence, embedded, within the environment and  community . The act of seeing generates a unique fractal portrait, as every viewer is framed within the living organism that is Burning Man..self-similarity and replication on all scales, yet with unique perspectives and hints of chaos.

INNER:

Walking around the star,  we discover a multi-mirrored, semi-secret portal,  like a shining compound eye.  Lifting the lens-like hatch, we enter a constellated, glittering shrine of reflection ; a pyramidal chamber of mirrored walls and a kaleidoscopic apex. It is as if we are the central star in a glittering constellation, with glints of light held in orbit of our every movement. The play of light and chaos echoes our fleeting existence, as it also reflects our infinite nature back to us. This intimate chamber is a surprisingly peaceful sitting and meeting space and up to 14 Burners can fit inside.

Gazing at the star..our images bounce off the mirrors to intersect, then widen exponentially into eternity. A moment of reflection, beginning with one, transforms into Infinity. A ‘Constellation of One’ poses the question- what do we send into ‘forever’? Looking through the lens, what does the collective eye / “I” envision?
